Room 13 Art auctioned at All Gold’s 100th Birthday Celebration

The TBWA\Room 13 art initiative was once again in the spotlight when 5 pieces of artwork created by the young artists, were auctioned at All Gold’s 100th year celebration at Tiger Brands. These pieces were selected from 20 pieces of artwork to be auctioned off at the event in aid of the Room 13 project. Room 13 involves setting up art studios at primary schools and ultimately self-funded businesses. School children create art, hold exhibitions, sell their art and ultimately raise sponsorships and other funds to make the project self –sustaining. Some of the young artists whose artwork was auctioned on the night were 12 year old Lawrence Mafisa from Sapebuso Primary, Emadwateni High School pupil Tshepo Ralekoa, 15 year old Mbali Matabane and Raymond Nzima who also attends Sapebuso Primary School. Also featured at the auction was the artwork of Ramon.

After a frenetic auction led by Muzi Kuzwayo, CEO of TBWA \Hunt\Lascaris, the artwork went under the hammer. The proud owners of these magnificent art pieces on the night were the All Gold Culinary Team, who purchased the “Matchstick” painting for a final price of R3,500. All Gold Beverages scooped up the “Tomato Sauce Bottle Collage” painting, the Consumer Division picked up the “Chips/Burger/All Gold” painting and the Online Group walked away with the “All Gold on Clouds” piece. The final painting titled “Floating 36 Tomatoes” went to Rosa Leigh for R2700.

Vusi Mfupi, Sapebuso Primary’s Artist-in-Reside expressed his gratitude – “We’re truly thankful for this opportunity to be associated with one of South Africa’s best loved brands, All Gold, in celebrating their centenary. The children all put a lot of time an effort in using All Gold to create artwork of a high calibre.

A total of R11 800 was raised on the night and all proceeds will go towards the expansion of the TBWA\Room 13 Project.” concludes Mfupi.
